Make a Difference
It only takes one great teacher to put a student on the path to seeing, experiencing and sharing a larger world. Our program will give you the tools and techniques needed to play an active part in nurturing other artists’ creative visions, improving their practical skills, and infusing them with a desire to fully experience life.
Whether your path leads to a K-12 career, a future as a private tutor or instruction in the halls of higher education, your studies at RMCAD will help you make a positive difference in the lives of your students.
Your Art Comes First
Kids Lab
Students from Eiber Elementary and the Tennyson Center in Lakewood brushed up on their art skills thanks to a new service learning project initiated at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. The program provided hands-on teacher training for RMCAD’s students while bringing art instruction to area children during after school hours.
"This hands-on program is more than just arts and crafts; it capitalizes on the skills and knowledge of art education majors in a college that equally values the training of the artist and the teacher."
--Delane Ingalls Vanada, Art Education Professor
The strength of our program lies in helping you develop as a fine artist. During the first two years you will explore and refine your creative vision and technique within the fields of painting, illustration or sculpture. Even though students ultimately specialize in one area, RMCAD’s entire community is open for you to explore.
Observation time in real classrooms is a routine part of many classes. During your senior year you’ll complete a student teaching internship. By teaching and learning alongside a veteran teacher in a Denver area school, techniques from your classes will be put to real-world use.
Discover the Art and Practice of Teaching
At the same time you’re enrolled in a variety of studio courses, we will develop your abilities as a teacher with classes that cover these topics:
- curriculum creation
- student coaching strategies
- classroom management
- the psychology of creativity
- teaching in multi-cultural environments
- assessing learning and teaching
Graduate with More than a Degree
Our courses are rigorous. Throughout the course of your training you will be challenged to develop creative solutions to problems real teachers face every day. As a result, by the time you complete the program you will have become a real teacher -- one who can accurately communicate ideas, demonstrate key techniques, provide constructive criticism, and ask the questions that will inspire your students to greatness.
