Using art to galvanize group activity.

Ploof facilitates participatory design/build processes with urban youth, critically considering issues of neighborhood development and environmental justice. In solidarity with artists with disabilities at Little City Foundation, Ploof cofounded Artistical Studios.

He is a member of Haha, an artists’ collective whose work explores and rearticulates social positions relative to particular sites. Haha’s exhibition venues include the Aperto/Venice Biennale, The Grimaldi Forum, Monaco; The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Sculpture Chicago’s Culture in Action; Mass MoCA and everyday spaces.

John Ploof is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Art Education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
