"Don't be afraid to change your thought pattern about art, and always do something new that's uncomfortable. One learns the most when they are in unfamiliar territory."
What aspect of your work or technique has developed the most during your time here?
I can't really answer this question. I've learned so much about technique, conceptual ideas and growth, and overall introspectiveness into my own work. This isn't a fair question to ask someone, I'm a completely different artist than when I started school; everything has changed about my process and my ideas.
How would you describe your style or approach?
I like to think a lot about what I'm going to do before I even attempt to try. I figure everything out conceptually then physically in my head followed by a somewhat rapid manifestation of the piece (unless I run into unforseen problems). My process is moving into an idea based art where I would prefer to pay a fabricator to make what I want generally because a professional fabricator is more than likely able to build/construct far better than I would be able to.
If you were stuck in an elevator with a brand new RMCAD student, what “inside tip” would you give them?
Two major things -- don't be afraid to change your thought pattern about art, and always do something new that's uncomfortable. One learns the most when they are in unfamiliar territory.
