Some schools are like factories. They’re designed to manufacture workers, or scientists, or businesspeople. We’re not like that. Artists and designers can’t be manufactured. They have to be given an opportunity to grow, one by one.
Success at RMCAD requires a lot of hard work, but it’s a labor of love.
- Elise Livadney, Animation class of 2009
Small Community
We’re small -- on purpose. We want RMCAD to be a safe place to develop and explore your creative range. Small class sizes and as much help as you need is a given. You’ll also be on a first name basis with everyone you need to know – from your department chair to the person who can help with your schedule or financial aid.
Big Opportunities
Our faculty members are deeply involved in the worlds of art and design, from local galleries to international associations and trade organizations. Despite our informal atmosphere, you will be connected to serious professionals who are more than happy to help a hard working student get their foot in the door in the “real world.”
Deep Learning
Being technically proficient with a variety of tools and media are important for any artist or designer. More important are the ideas and concepts behind the choices made during the creative process. We emphasize intentional creativity, meaningful work and professional conduct in addition to polished technical skill.
-Zach Madere, Animation/Illustration class of 2010
Shallow Footprint
RMCAD is a green campus. From our lawns, trees and on-campus vegetable garden to our extensive recycling program, conservation efforts and sustainable design practices we make taking care of our environment a priority.
Light Hearted
If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right. We try very hard to maintain a constructive and supportive creative environment on our campus. Come for a campus visit – you’ll see what we mean.
Heavy Commitment
Every student at RMCAD is here because they want to be here. They are dedicated to expanding their art and design skills. The success of our alumni is the result of long hours in the studio, earnest debate with fellow artists and designers, and a substantial amount of experimentation and soul searching. The common thread that ties our diverse community together is that everyone takes their work very seriously.
