RMCAD takes the issue of campus safety very seriously and is proud to maintain a very safe, intimate campus environment. However, all students are encouraged to be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others. Information about crime prevention, safety and security information is distributed at New Student Orientation. There are emergency call boxes located on campus which connect to the College's 24-hour facilities staff and to the Lakewood Police Department. Upon request, students may ask for an escort to their vehicle during evening hours. The Student Activities Office regularly hosts programs designed to raise student awareness of personal safety and health.
In Compliance with Public Law 10–542, the Federal Campus Security Act, the following information is made available to all students, staff or interested persons:
Reporting a Crime
Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design provides reasonable safety and security at all times when the facilities are in use. Anyone may report crimes or emergencies by dialing 911, or by calling the Information desk in the Texas building at 303.753.6046, or by reporting in person at the Information desk. All crimes reported to the College officials, except in a counseling setting, are followed up by the Lakewood Police Department.
Security and Access to Facilities
Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design is private property; however, visitors and the public are welcome. During regular daytime hours, main entrances /exits are open for access to facilities. Visitors must check in at the Information desk in the Texas building upon arrival to the campus. Facilities not in use or supervised are normally secured.
There are four emergency call boxes located on campus which connect directly to the Lakewood Police (via a 911 call). The call boxes are located:
- in the student parking lot
- in the staff and faculty parking lot
- behind the Rotunda building
- behind the boiler house
Law Enforcement
Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design works in complete cooperation with the Lakewood Police Department in all cases requiring law enforcement. The College will also aid in the coordination of prompt and accurate reporting and follow-up of crimes and emergencies.
Crime Prevention
Crime prevention, safety and security information is distributed at new student orientation, employee orientation, faculty meetings, and student meetings via the Campus Services department. In the event of a need for awareness regarding major incidents, announcements will be distributed through the College’s electronic mail system, and bulletins may be posted in classrooms and administrative buildings. Students and employees are encouraged to be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others.
Off Campus Student Organizations
Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design does not have student organizations off campus.
Alcohol and Drugs
Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design complies with the laws of the State of Colorado regarding the possession, sale and consumption of alcohol. Students may be held responsible for the following alcohol-related offenses:
- Minor possession of alcohol. It is unlawful for any person under the age of 21 years to acquire, have in his/her possession or consume any alcoholic beverages.
- Open container. It is unlawful for anyone to carry or consume alcoholic beverages while operating a motor vehicle, regardless of age.
- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor. It is unlawful for a person of legal age to purchase, serve or otherwise supply alcoholic beverages to any person under the age 21 years.
Federal and state laws prohibit the possession, use or sale of drugs not prescribed by a physician or available for regular retail sale. Any student violating such laws is subject to arrest and serious College disciplinary action. Detailed information regarding the College’s alcohol and drug abuse policies and education programs is outlined in the Student Handbook.
Sexual Harassment or Assault of Students
Sexual harassment and/or forcible or non-forcible sex offenses are prohibited by state and federal law and by the policy of Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. The College will not tolerate such conduct. It is the intent of the College to take whatever action is necessary to prevent, correct and if necessary, discipline, to the extent of student dismissal or dismissal from the employment, behavior which violates this policy. The College makes students aware of these issues through the new student orientation program, Student Handbook, and educational programs.
Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when:
- Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly as a term or condition of a sexual individual’s employment or educational advancement.
- Submission to or rejection of such conduct, by an individual, is used as the basis for academic or employment decision making that affects the individual; or such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with that individual’s academic or professional performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive working, educational or living environment.
In cases of a forcible or non-forcible sexual offense, students are advised to seek medical attention immediately, to keep any physical evidence in case the individual wishes to prove criminal sexual assault. Students are also advised to obtain counseling support from campus or community resources.
A student may contact any of the following to report and receive advice/counsel:

- Human Resources
Students who report cases of sexual harassment or assault will be provided with:
- Campus and community resources for assistance
- Options regarding how to file such report to campus authorities
- Options available to notify proper law enforcement agencies
- Options available to them to change their academic schedule
Both the accuser and the accused are entitled to have advisors present during disciplinary proceeding, and will be informed of the outcome of any campus disciplinary proceeding alleging sexual assault or harassment.
The “Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act” requires convicted sex offenders currently required to register under state law to now also disclose their association with institutions of higher education when applicable. Specifically affected are those registered sex offenders who attend, are employed by, or volunteer at institutions of post-secondary education.
